Testimonial- June 2024- Tim Sproal

"For our mid-year holiday we took our kids (Mim, 5 and Sylvie, 10) for a week long stay on Flinders Island. We’d had a busy first half of the year, over committed and stretched thin and were looking for a relaxing family holiday in a beautiful place that wasn’t too crowded…with plenty of amazing walks! We didn’t know much about Flinders, with the recommendation coming a friend. As we walked out of Essendon Airport we all commented that that was the best family holiday we’ve ever had! A life tonic. A full factory reset. We stayed at the Cray Shack in Killiecrankie and had a mates old subaru to explore the Island with and settled into a routine of getting up with the sunrise, a walk along the beach, shower/bath on the deck, breakfast and off for a hike or a beach walk. No emails, no phones. Everything slows down and the beauty of that place comes into sharp focus. Hikes up Mt Killiecrankie and Strzeleki Peak were big highlights and some of the best day walks we’ve ever experienced. Particularly Strzeleki….the most breathtaking views of the island and not a single other hiker on the hill. It felt like another world. Afternoon walks along the granite boulders at Sawyers Bay, fossicking for Killiecrankie diamonds with the kids, visiting the Kates wombat nursery, fishing on the rocks at north east river, chasing the sun along the beach at Trouser point in the late arvo, mooching around Whitemark and getting advice off the locals, watching the sunset from basically anywhere….every day we were there was perfect. Whinging and boredom dont seem to exist on the island! Despite the physical size of the island, the small town feeling is evident in the people you meet, who remember you and wave or stop and ask how you’re liking it. Kindness and generosity. Exactly what we needed and everything we will return for as soon as we can! Even squeezed in a quick tour of the Furneaux Distillery and bond store - a world class setup and a privilege to see it under construction! WE WILL BE BACK.”
